Our comedy week-in-review: Feb 26 to March 3

Todd Glass performs at Vancouver ComedyFest 2012.

Lots of great comedy happened in our fair GVRD last week, and we hardly made it to any of it. But what we did see was fantastic and we wanted to mention it briefly here.

Tuesday, Feb. 28 – The Fictionals’ Show Us Your Wits @ Cafe Deux Soleils

Funny, fast-paced, character-driven improv in a very comedy-friendly room. Sudden Death Improv mastermind Graham Myers was the comedy guest this time ’round. He had great chemistry with the Fictionals cast, and he was hilarious, too. Oh, and there were half-naked chicks. Worth checking out. (Next show is March 27th.)

Wednesday, Feb. 29 – Johnny Scoop’s Open Mic at Goldies

Johnny Scoop’s long-running open mic has moved from the now-closed Kingston to Goldies, and this first night was such a success that Scoop is now co-producing weekend shows with room-runner Marlo Franson. It’s a great space with excellent pizza AND convenient parking. Check out the open mic on Wednesday and see what they have to offer from Thursday to Saturday, too.

Friday, March 2 – Sudden Death Improv at the Second Storey Theatre

Sudden Death is really hitting their stride out there in the TriCities. It was great to see show-runner Graham Myers improvising with the cast, instead of hosting the show. And cast-member Richard Wiens, who took on hosting duties for the first time that night, proved a charismatic and fun guide through the show’s unique format. Check their website for information about upcoming shows.

Saturday, March 3 – Todd Glass at Vancouver ComedyFest

We had a great time at the very last show of ComedyFest 2012. Check out our photos and review here.
